Hi Barry, Great photos! The Washington Monument and the tents are by far my favorites. Most photos of the Washington Monument set in the middle of the photo that I've seen have fallen somewhat flat, but in your photo, the monument jumps off the page. Seriously, I'm speechless (but, I think I'll find my voice again) :) The tents are an interesting juxtaposition of excitement and joy (the light hitting the tent tops) and a foreboding forecast on the horizon. And, I like the angle in the NMAAHC photo. It tells a story too. The open window (I think that's what it is) is reminiscent of a plank being used to embark or disembark a ship. Cool.
Correction: Most of my photos of the Washington Monument set in the middle of the photo fall flat. I have seen some good ones, but none as nice as the one you have posted here.
Love the tent tops too. I looked and looked at them, but couldn't see the subtle light you caught. The one of the Lincoln Memorial is my favorite--largely because the composition is unexpected but really intersting.
Your B&W images totally rock! It is the intention, the purpose, the thinking that went before doing click that makes them so good. There are so many different moods here. The Washington Monument is strong and the clouds bring a dynamic element to make it a great image. The image of the Lincoln Memorial with a peaceful stream of water and a quiet reflecting pool is kind of zen image--so very beautiful. Image # 3 format accentuates the contrast between the man seating at the foot of a huge column in an open setting--the open setting that lies beyond the frame makes it great! Image #1 has a fantastic combination of geometric patterns -- complex patterns. The tent tops (Image #4) shows beautiful patterns--simpler patterns. And image #6 is all never ending movement and strength.

The tents are fab! Love your eye for design, both capturing essence of designed things and your own, and the way the images feel dynamic and alive.
ReplyDeleteAll very striking images - expecially the Lincoln and Washington monuments.
